My Cities, Your Identities explores the parallel relationship between cities’ transformations and identities’ evolution: modern metropolis are often the result of the compound of different cities and cultures, as it is for contemporary identities. During this borderless time we have the possibility to live and experience a constant hybridization among cities, bodies, societies, cultures and new technologies, which shapes and regenerates our individualities. Our whole being evolves as well as contemporary cultures and modern cities do.

The exhibition is curated by Arch. Luca Curci (Founder of LUCA CURCI ARCHITECTS and It’s LIQUID Group).

BorderBody – Mixing Cities | Bari, Italy International Art Festival

“Scapegrace”
Borders & Mixing Identities
Palazzo Barone Ferrara
From 13th to 21th february 2014
Bari (Italy)

"Scapregrace" (2013)

“BorderBody – Mixing Identities” international art festival of photography, video art, installation and performing art will be held at the prestigious Palazzo Barone Ferrara in Bari (Italy) from the 13 to the 21 of February 2014.

Palazzo Barone Ferrara is a magnificent historic building of XIX century, symbol of importance and progress of the city. Located in the centre of Bari, is the headquarters and exhibition space of Banca Apulia bank.

BorderBody – Mixing Cities | Bari, Italy International Art Festival

“BorderBody” exhibitions cycle is conceived as a diffused and nomadic festival in different places of the world. “Mixing Identities”, the second chapter of this 3-event cycle, is focused on the hybridization of social identities. In contemporary societies boundaries are getting more and more fleeting, and also the identity, that makes each person or place a recognizable entity, turns out fluid and multiple. Cultural, religious, ethnic borders become changeable too. This change, this mutation has allowed to cross the inside of the identities, creating new possible crossings, new blends. There is no more limit between an identity and the other one but it is possible to walk, to cross a passage and to find oneself halfway through it, in a non-place, in a non-identity.

Openings from the 13 to the 21 of February 2014, from 10.00 AM to 01.00 PM and from 03.00 PM to 06.00 PM, at Palazzo Barone Ferrara, C.so Vittorio Emanuele II n.102/A, Bari (Italy)

This change, this mutation has allowed to cross the inside of the identities creating new possible crossings, new blends. And it’s just this “contemporaneity” that makes our civilization conceived as subjected to a process of continuous evolution and cultural hybridization. There is no more limit between an identity and the other one but it is possible to walk, to cross a passage and to find oneself halfway through it, in a non-place, in a non-identity. Thirty-three artists, from different countries, have been selected to be part of this project.

The selection was based on the main concept of hybridization between identities and urban environment, as the result of liquid identities and liquid contacts between people. People, backgrounds, societies, progress and all their inputs creates hybrid identities, modifying each other and being mixed in prospect to shape a better world. The Center of Architecture, Urban Culture and Landscape “Uzina de Apa”
is the result of a  conversion of an old, abandoned Water Plant into a Cultural Center. The project results as a collaboration including municipal authorities, local community and an array of architects, engineers and students. Moreover, private contractors and companies dedicated to innovative techniques are involved to achieve an exemplary public-private partnership. Although originally conceived as a technological construction, the new “Water Plant” is now capable of hosting events ranging from conferences to concerts and exhibitions. By reclaiming its place in the city, this project attempts the true meaning of the word “sustainability” (sus = under and tenere = to hold) – to keep in existence, to maintain and prolong.

Liquid borders | Bari 2013

liquid borders- bari 2013

“La Corte – Fotografia e ricerca” cultural organization and International ArtExpo are proud to announce the opening of Liquid Borders – International art festival of photography, video art and installation, held in Bari (Italy) in the prestigious and historical locations of Castello Svevo (Swabian Castle), Santa Teresa dei Maschi and Sala Murat, from the 3rd to the 31st of July.

The press conference will be on Friday the 28th of June 2013 at 11.30 AM, in the Sala Sveva of Castello Svevo (Swabian Castle).

The openings of the event will be on Wednesday the 3rd of July 2013 at Castello Svevo (Swabian Castle), at 06.00 PM; and on Thursday the 4th of July 2013 in Santa Teresa dei Maschi at 05.00 PM, and at Sala Murat at 06.00 PM.

The event will last until July 31st 2013.

The Festival is based on the main concept of the hybridization among art, culture, physical and social identities in contemporary cities, and the mixing between people and space. Urban environments, people, rules and limits are no more distinct realities, but they constantly modify and get mixed together, generating new connections and hybrid results, with undefined ethic, social, sexual and religious borders. Forty-two artists, from all over the world, have been invited to present their artworks related to the theme, during the festival which will be hosted in the three venues of the city of Bari, until the end of July. The aim of the festival is to understand which are the borders still alive in contemporary metropolis, and which ones have become undefined and hybrid. To understand that, artists use material, pictures, sounds, videos and site-specific installations. Fausta Maria Bolettieri and Luca Curci, curators.

Liquid borders - Bari 2013

Welcome to the Mojave Desert

“The Forgotten Film Gallery” is a web based documentary film and video art installation project which strives to showcase a collection of films dealing with interpretations of the forgotten and the indefinite time period during and after the present. The Forgotten Film Gallery will attempt to link the past, present and future using unique areas of the Mojave desert and the World Wide Web as it’s gallery installation space.

Goal
The goal for the Forgotten Film Gallery is to unite the new with the old. Link the past to the future using the remoteness of the desert as the gallery space and the world wide web as a platform to distribute a documentary freely with the public.

Impact
By utilizing the lonely desert as an audience. Contemporary artists might continue to create freely without the fear of rejection. Sharing the film on the web will also allow the general public to recognize and value the importance of our often under appreciated past and present natural environment.
