Film by Fred L’Epee
In collaboration with Kenneth Gentry

Genre Experimental
Year 2014
Duration 07mn 01s

Among lost hopes, humankind is in search of our lost identities. This film is an archetype representing the surreality of humankind. Primitive mental images inherited from the earliest human consumers are ever present in our collective unconsciousness. The self-representation from the term “consumer society” is the simplification of the term “consumer-led industrial society.” The notion of consumer society refers to a social and economic order based on the systematic creation and manipulation of desire. This is the way to maintain the consumption of goods, though it’s often unsustainable and even produced and sold in anticipation of a planned obsolescence. However, the consumer continues to blindly consume. Among lost hopes and identities, humankind is now in search of our lost stars. – Synopsis

Film “Bipolar” (2014) now available

Film by Fred L’Epee
In collaboration with Kenneth Gentry and Ed Alvarado.

Genre Experimental
Year 2014
Duration 08 mn 50s

“The theme of bipolarity is seen through various means: the natural and the man-made; production and destruction; energy and adynamia; peace and apocalypse; equilibrium and disequilibrium — from the beginning to the end. This emerging view of a complex “bipolar climate machinery” urgently calls for a major research effort in order to decipher and quantify the interplay of atmospheric and social processes. When the world is in no accordance with all the cyclic combinations, a more or less bipolar world cannot be inevitable”. – Synopsis

Film “Mare’s Nest” (2014) now available

Film by Fred L’Epee and Kenneth Gentry

Genre Experimental/Fiction
Year 2014
Duration 09 mn 20s

In our film we posit the following question: is mankind in this postmodern era falling into a sort of collective madness, for which there may be neither a remedy nor a means of escape? It is an existential question regarding the postmodern condition. If one looks into the contemporary arts and sciences, one will find that this may well be the case. The postmodern condition has been characterized as that of denial (Pinker), shock (Hughes), disorder (Lwoff), chaos (Bloom), dismantling (Bauman), and oblivion (Borges). Do we find ourselves in a world, like it or not, of disarray, disillusionment, even illusion? Does this inevitably lead to internal and external conflicts? We will let each viewer of our film be the judge of that. – Synopsis

BorderBody – Mixing Cities | Bari, Italy International Art Festival

“BorderBody” exhibitions cycle is conceived as a diffused and nomadic festival in different places of the world. “Mixing Identities”, the second chapter of this 3-event cycle, is focused on the hybridization of social identities. In contemporary societies boundaries are getting more and more fleeting, and also the identity, that makes each person or place a recognizable entity, turns out fluid and multiple. Cultural, religious, ethnic borders become changeable too. This change, this mutation has allowed to cross the inside of the identities, creating new possible crossings, new blends. There is no more limit between an identity and the other one but it is possible to walk, to cross a passage and to find oneself halfway through it, in a non-place, in a non-identity.

Openings from the 13 to the 21 of February 2014, from 10.00 AM to 01.00 PM and from 03.00 PM to 06.00 PM, at Palazzo Barone Ferrara, C.so Vittorio Emanuele II n.102/A, Bari (Italy)

Festival Cinema Libre | Hamburg, Germany

Festival International Cinema Libre
From 30th August to 1rst September 2013
Hamburg (Germany)

Festival International Cinema Libre

Cinema Libre is produced by people who have to say something. Cinema libre is placing poetry before technique/technology, life before show, and facts before effects. It is the antidote to dominant and standardized pictures, which are shaping us. It differs from the cinema made by industry, television, business, entertainment, motion picture technology and money. Cinema Libre does not pay attention to public expectations. It is neither a job, nor a business. It does not look for a return on investment. It ignores codes, formats and fashions. It is a cinema of experiments and many times it is based on DIY, sharing, lightness and freshness.

To be independent from the film industry, movies can be self-produced, crowd funded and/or be produced with no money at all. These movies are sometimes labelled as “amateur movies”. Furthermore there are movies, which are under copyleft licences or under Creative Commons licences and can be shared and modified freely. Even some movies produced in the traditional way divert themselves from the conformism that is involved in/ belongs to the hegemonic system.

In the last decade, digital technologies extend the space of cinema libre.

This is a chance to promote the cinema libre, since the access from creation to diffusion is now available for many people.

By definition, cinema libre has no definition. That’s why this festival wants to be an occasion to develop this idea of cinema. By watching movies – your movies – and by giving space and time for discussions we will try to make the cinema libre defining itself.

International Festival Cinema Libre
