3rd International Festival Cinema Libre | Hamburg (Germany)

“The White Widow” (2015) is selected for the 3rd International Festival Cinema Libre of Hamburg (Germany) which will held from 28th to 30th August 2015.

Cinema libre differs from the cinema made by industry, television, business, entertainment, motion picture, technology and money. Free from rigths, under licence art libre or creative commons, it is shared and can be diverted without tethers.

To be independent from the film industry, movies can be self-produced, crowd funded and/or be produced with no money at all. In the last decade, digital technologies extended the space of cinema libre and enabled everyone to take back this way of expression swallowed up by industry for decades.

Analogue formats are also coming back as a way to explore and experiment things thanks to alternatives and shared laboratories which are growing up everywhere in the world.

Cinema libre has something to say, something to shout about. It does not pay attention to public expectations. It is neither a job, nor a business. It does not look for a return on investment. It ignores codes, formats and fashions. It is a cinema of experiments and it is often based on DIY, sharing, lightness and freshness.

Cinema libre places poetry before technique, life before show, and facts before effects. It is the antidote to the dominant and standardized pictures, which shape us.

Bipolar (2014) |10th Montreal Underground Film Festival (MUFF) May 21-24, 2015 (Montreal, Canada)

BIPOLAR (2014)
Film by Fred L’Epee, Elam Ellis Embarq and Ed Alvarado
10th Montreal Underground Film Festival (MUFF)
May 21-24, 2015
Montreal, Canada

MUFF celebrates and promotes low-budget filmmakers who challenge the limitations of mainstream cinema, making the world a more exciting, engaging place to live. We showcase inventive filmmaking that pushes the boundaries of independent film. We encourage experimental work that is radical, visionary, subversive.

MUFF10

MUFF is a small, dedicated collective of programmers in search of creative moving image work featuring any experimental combination of narrative, non-narrative, documentary, animation, sound, style, performance. We are looking for films that highlight the power of the paracinematic to disrupt the status quo—deviant work, unafraid to challenge and enrich the spectator’s relationship to the everyday and to the medium itself.

MUFF is committed to the idea that some of the most unique and critical voices are those that come from the margins—artistic, social, cultural, political. Expose your vision to MUFF!

Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi is a residential palace dating back to the 16th century which, over the centuries, has been added on to by various noble Venetian families and is one of the most evocative and beautiful palaces in the city of Venice; the Serenissima. Sumptuous and possessing particular charm, Ca’ Zanardi is located in a most peaceful setting and has its own delightful private garden as well as a magnificent terrace full of sun and colour. Ca’ Zanardi is located close to the Ca’ D’Oro, the splendid 15th century gothic palace along the Grand Canal.  It is located off the main tourist drag but is still easily reachable by foot, after a two minute walk from the Ca’ D’Oro water bus stop, or by boat using the palazzo’s private pier positioned along the fetching Santa Caterina canal. The refined elegance of the palazzo’s halls and common areas and the delicacy of its original 16th century furnishings create a fascinating setting.

2nd International Festival Cinema Libre | Hamburg (Germany)

Scapegrace (2013)
Official selection
2nd International Festival Cinema Libre
From 29th to 31th of August 2014
Hamburg (Germany)

Cinema Libre is produced by people who have to say something. Cinema libre is placing poetry before technique/technology, life before show, and facts before effects. It is the antidote to dominant and standardized pictures, which are shaping us. It differs from the cinema made by industry, television, business, entertainment, motion picture technology and money. Cinema Libre does not pay attention to public expectations. It is neither a job, nor a business. It does not look for a return on investment. It ignores codes, formats and fashions. It is a cinema of experiments and many times it is based on DIY, sharing, lightness and freshness.

2nd International Festival Cinema Libre From 29th to 31th of August 2014 Hamburg (Germany)

To be independent from the film industry, movies can be self-produced, crowd funded and/or be produced with no money at all. These movies are sometimes labelled as “amateur movies”. Furthermore there are movies, which are under copyleft licences or under Creative Commons licences and can be shared and modified freely. Even some movies produced in the traditional way divert themselves from the conformism that is involved in/ belongs to the hegemonic system.

In the last decade, digital technologies extend the space of cinema libre.

This is a chance to promote the cinema libre, since the access from creation to diffusion is now available for many people.

By definition, cinema libre has no definition. That’s why this festival wants to be an occasion to develop this idea of cinema. By watching movies – your movies – and by giving space and time for discussions we will try to make the cinema libre defining itself.

Our whole being evolves as well as contemporary cultures and modern cities do.
